CV 9 Documentary

After about a month and a half of editing, I have completed my documentary on CV 9. I have made a 720p Vimeo preset and a 1080p YouTube preset. It is 15:23 in length and I am more-or-less proud of what I've made.

Display Preparation

For this week, I simply picked and chose which images I would like to incorporate into my display during our high school's District Arts Festival. My plan is to take three images from each part of my trifolds, with one being Film 2, one being Digital Portfolio, and the other from my CV 9 Documentary. I have not gotten to editing my footage for the documentary until this upcoming week, so I have not taken the screenshots from it yet. So, here are the 6 other screenshots I will be implementing. Along with that, I have cropped and reimage sized everything with a 300 resolution size to make the prints all look better. Coincidentally, I have 3 films from each year to incorporate into my 3 screenshots.

This is my screenshot from Gone, with Cole Schindler. I like this shot's use of lighting and inclusion of a lot going on within the shot and the angle.

This is the standard screenshot from my Matrix Scene Recreation during Film 2. The video featured Anthony Santos and Cole Schindler. I simply like this shot due to the use of color grading and costuming, it looks good.

This is a screenshot from my Seventeen film, featuring a nice screenshot of water dripping.

This is my silhouette shot from my Burndt Jamb music video with The Visitors. I think it's one of the coolest shots in my video and I wanted to include it.
This is one of the opening shots from my Divorce film. It's a nice angle and includes the sticky note drawings I had.
Lastly, this is a screenshot from my video While I'm Away, featuring a rack focus shot between a phone and CJ, the main character.

CV 9 Documentary Update 5/8

CV 9 Documentary Update 5/8

As of this week, I have just about finished up my work on the combining of my two interviews between Mr. Martin and Dr. Blanchard. Totaling to about 24 minutes worth of content between the two of them, I have decided to omit the extensive usage of the third party angles that I have lots of shots for. It simply would only look good if I amply included it throughout the interviews, but that would mean syncing up unedited footage to 25 minutes worth of content in a week when I have more than enough work to do already. The editing will need about one or two more days to officially finish off my interviews, but they are about done and I am happy. Along with my interviews, I have recorded the voiceover for my non-interview sections of the documentary. This, too, will take me about a day to edit together, and then that just leaves getting a couple more shots at the high school and outside CV 9 now that it is warm to finish off everything to be edited all together to be done. I am satisfied with my work here.

CV 9 Documentary Update 5/1

 CV 9 Documentary Update 5/1

This week, I continued moving forward in the editing of my CV 9 documentary's interviews between Mr. Martin and Dr. Blanchard. The original goal for this week week in my schedule was to do my Mr. Martin interview and to get the synthesis of both done. While I have completed my editing for Mr. Martin's interview, I have yet to finish my combining of both sequences. While this can make me feel like I might be behind schedule, I am realizing that this actually works fine. This upcoming week my only job was to record my voiceover and record a couple final shots after school. I have spent the last 5 days of class time editing the interviews, as well as a fair amount of my time in Digital Portfolio editing them as well. I think it is fair that this has taken me so long to edit as well, since the possible footage to use from either interview is 25 minutes each that I half to cut down, and with my script working out to about three pages of content, my documentary will be a majority interview focused in terms of run time. This next week I will be finishing my interview synthesis (and working at home to accomplish this as well), recording a couple final shots for my non-interview segments, and doing my voiceover as well.

3D Text on After Effects

For this week of trying new things out, I wanted to learn about After Effects more. To do this, I decided I wanted to learn about 3D text and how that would work. I thought it would be simple, and that there would just be a text effect to put onto it to complete my exercise. However, while that is kind of correct, I ended up learning A LOT on what I can do to make it look better as 3D text in addition to simply making my text 3D

To learn a little bit about how to accomplish this task, I looked up videos on how to do 3D text in after effects. This was the video I ended up following as a tutorial. I followed his instructions on how to make my text look better in 3D up until the 13/17 minute mark or so, as I was satisfied with what I had learned. I may revisit the rest in the future if I wish to learn more.

Here are a few screenshots of my work and a summary of what I did to get to them.

The first thing I did was add a text layer to a composition. I changed the settings of my comp to be able to do 3D objects and then made my text 3D with a setting I could put onto it. I then went and added a light feature to my composition which was very interesting.

I added multiple lights to the work, rotated the camera around, moved around the lights and their angles to better encompass the text, and then to change the color of the text I actually changed the color of the light directly in front of the text.

I added a slight bevel to the text after that and added an ambient light to the text to add just a little more colored detail. My goal originally with this was actually to have this 3D text appear in a video I had as a physical object, so I then key framed its position on the video and the following is the result of such. There is first the video without the clip as the background, and then the finished video.
